Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Lamentations 3:22-23
22It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
We all need someone to lean on or stand by us in times of trouble and difficulties. When we need help or encouragement it is good to know that we have someone that is faithful by our side. This could be a spouse, family member or close friend that will stand by us during the tough trials of life. The support we get from our love ones is limited to their human abilities. They only can be faithful according to their ability.
However, when we trust in the Lord he is always faithful with no limitations. This scripture was written during the Babylonian captivity of Judah when things seem to be hopeless. The prophet Jeremiah wept at the destruction of Jerusalem and the enslavement of the children of Judah. In the worst of times he found hope in God and remembered his mercies and compassion.
The Lord’s mercies can be defined as God’s covenant love or unfailing love toward his people. Sometimes we make mistakes, but God’s mercy holds back judgment and allow us to enjoy his forgiveness. We also serve a God that is full of compassion and cares about our welfare. Everyday he is concerned about us and his mercies and compassion are renewed towards us.
We can depend upon God because he is faithful. He will never leave us or forsake us. His faithfulness is unlimited and surpassing our understanding.
O Lord great is thy faithfulness!
